Hello, my name is Janet!

I hated English!


Back in college, I was an English major. I took it because I HATED ENGLISH! Seriously. My love for listening to radio jocks just made me took it because I want to sound just like them. I didn’t learn how to be good in English in school, I mainly learned how to love the language itself. 



One time, my friend said “when you speak English, your accent is very clear, but your grammar is very poor.” That dawned on me. 


After graduating from college, I started teaching in an international school and met foreign students in a language center. That challenged me a lot!


I WAS CONSCIOUS ABOUT MY GRAMMAR! I always thought people would judge my grammar and that made me reluctant to interact with anyone in English. 

Then, I met my husband in the Philippines...

That time he was my boyfriend. I was inspired by his story as he only studied English for 6 months and became really fluent. He told me “just speak and speak and speak and grammar will follow along the way”. And that resonated in me. From that day on, I didn’t care about my grammar and just spoke to anyone. IT HAS REALLY IMPROVED MY COMMUNICATION SKILLS!

But I also believe that grammar is the backbone of the language. So, I worked on my grammar and really practiced it both in writing and speaking.


Then, I became more confident day by day! I already got rid of thinking “is my grammar correct?” because I worked it out and now, it’s natural in me. 

I went to China to teach English...


I took a training course for teachers and acquired a certificate so I can teach students to foreigners. Then, I went to China (specifically, in Wuhan) to work in one of the biggest schools there. It was a great opportunity for career advancement. I was fully immersed in Chinese culture, food, and people. It was all well, until the pandemic hit the world.

I went to Türkiye to meet my boyfriend's family that time and 3 days after leaving Wuhan, it was already closed for quarantine. I thought it was the end of my teaching career.

Fast forward to today,


I am now married to my Turkish husband and living in Türkiye. Another culture, another language, another challenge! I HAD TO LEARN HOW TO SPEAK TURKISH!!!



Turkish is totally a different AND difficult language. It was really hard at first, but after 4 years of staying here, I can say that I am now fluent in Turkish and can communicate confidently with anyone! I didn’t go to a Turkish class nor take any Turkish courses. Just full immersion!



Now, I can speak 3 languages CONFIDENTLY— Filipino, English, and Turkish.
